1.) Meeting Roleplay: Controlling the Discussion in Meetings + Evaluating Options (Student 5 Leading)

Meeting Roleplay 3: Evaluating Options(Read Evaluating Options Roleplay Steps*)

Background: Our cosmetics company has received criticism about harming the environment and not supporting our communities. People say we produce a lot of waste and pollution, and we do not help local projects enough. We want to improve our public image by being more socially responsible. We have these four plans:

  1. Develop a Sustainable Sourcing Policy

    • Commit to using raw materials from eco-friendly suppliers.

  2. Launch a Recycling Program

    • Encourage customers to return empty containers for recycling, offering discounts or rewards.

  3. Fund Local Community Programs

    • Use some of our profits to support education or skills training for young people in areas where we work.

  4. Create an Employee Volunteer Program

    • Allow employees to take paid time off to volunteer in community projects.

Goal: We need to choose two of these plans to start as soon as possible to improve our company’s image.

*Evaluating Options Roleplay Steps (English)

  1. Think for 3 minutes about which two plans you prefer.

  2. Type your choices in the chat box and give a short reason.

    • For example:

      • Recycling Program: reduces waste

      • Employee Volunteer Program: helps local communities

  3. Look at everyone’s choices and read their reasons.

  4. You have 2 minutes to think about the weak points (problems) of each choice in the chat box. Also, think again about your own choices. (You can prefer more than two if you’re unsure.)

  5. Start the meeting roleplay.

  6. During the roleplay, discuss and compare these options.

  7. If you do not like any option, you can suggest new ideas at any time.

評価オプション・ロールプレイの手順 (Japanese)

2.) Business Discussion : Business Travel

Business Travel Article: Business travel is often necessary to meet clients, attend conferences, or explore new market opportunities. Companies provide employees with an itinerary and a travel budget to cover flights, accommodation, and meals. After the trip, employees usually submit an expense report for travel reimbursement. While conference calls can handle some business matters, in-person meetings are often more effective for building relationships. Managing jet lag and navigating visa requirements are common challenges for international business travelers, but perks like frequent flyer programs or lounge access can make the experience more comfortable.

Discussion Questions:

  1. How do you prepare for a business trip? What is essential in your itinerary?

  2. Have you ever had to submit an expense report after a business trip? What challenges did you face?

  3. How do you cope with jet lag during or after long flights for business?

  4. Do you think in-person client meetings are more effective than virtual meetings? Why or why not?

  5. What do you think are the best perks or benefits of frequent business travel?
