今回の内容は、他動詞と自動詞を理解することで、文が正しく作れるようになる方法です。
他動詞と自動詞、聞いたことあるけどそんなに重要なの？と思う方もいるかと思いますが…
実はこれは重要なんです！
なぜなら、他動詞と自動詞を区別できると「前置詞」を上手く使えるようになるからです。
他動詞と自動詞さえわかれば、前置詞の使い方も理解できるようになります。

＜Part 1. 解説＞
まずは他動詞と自動詞のそれぞれの特徴を見ていきましょう。

他動詞、自動詞それぞれの主な動詞です。
（分かりやすくするために未来形にしています。）
他動詞と自動詞を比べてみると、ご覧のとおり、自動詞を使った文の場合は、
[主語と動詞］だけで完成された文を作ることができます。
I’ll go. 行きます。
I’ll work. 働きます。
I’ll sleep. 寝ます。
I’ll fly. 飛びます。
I’ll drive. 運転します。
文章は完成されていて、何が言いたいのか理解できますね。
しかし、他動詞はどうでしょう。

[主語と動詞］だけでは言いたいことが完成されていませんね。
I'll make. 作ります。→ なにを？
I'll say. 言います。→ なにを？
I'll have. 持ちます。→ なにを？
I'll give. あげます。→ なにを？
I'll get. とります。→ なにを？
そう、他動詞は「目的語」がなければ文章を完成させることはできないのです。
次のように、他動詞のあとに直接「目的語」を置きます。
I'll make cookies. クッキーを作ります。
I’ll say goodbye. さよならを言います。
I’ll have a sandwich. サンドイッチを食べます。
I'll give a presentation. プレゼンテーションをします。
I’ll get a bonus. ボーナスをもらいます。
I’ll clean the bathroom. お風呂を掃除します。
※「目的語」とは？
名詞や代名詞、名詞の働きをするもの。動詞の意味を補足する役割となります。
そう、これが他動詞と自動詞の大きな違いです。
他動詞は、主語と動詞だけでなく、文を完成させるには必ず目的語も必要です。
自動詞は、主語と動詞だけで文を完成させることができます。
・・・では、自動詞の後にさらに情報を付け加えた文章を作りたいときは
どうすればよいでしょうか?
ここででてくるのが、「前置詞」です。
自動詞は、目的語なしで使用できますが、
より多くの情報を追加したい場合は、後ろに「前置詞」を置く必要があります。
次の様に、
自動詞の後にさらに情報を追加したい場合は、前置詞を忘れてはいけません。

１. Controlled Practice Speaking Activity 1 (10 minutes)
<Instructions>
受講生の方：
下記にある文を先生に読んでください。次に、その動詞が他動詞か自動詞かを先生に伝えます。 単語がわからない場合は先生に聞けば説明してくれます。
For the student:
Read the following sentence to your teacher. Then tell your teacher the verb and if the verb is transitive or intransitive. If you don't know a word, that's okay. Just ask your teacher and they will explain it.
For the teacher:
Listen to your student read the sentences. They will identify the verb and if it is transitive or intransitive. Correct them as needed. You can see the answer key at the bottom of this webpage.
This should be the first time that the student sees this exercise, so if they tell you that they see a new vocabulary word, please explain it and then mark it down for further review.

For the student:
Look at the following word. Then say a sentence using this word. (Do not write it down. Just create the sentence in your mind.)
Your teacher will tell you if you are correct. If you are incorrect, your teacher will correct you. If you don't know a word, that's okay. Just ask your teacher and they will explain it.
For the teacher:
Listen to your student's sentence. Correct them as needed.
This should be the first time that the student sees this exercise, so if they tell you that they see a new vocabulary word, please explain it and then mark it down for further review.

先生に1分間、あなたの仕事を題材にしたプレゼンテーションを行ってください。他動詞と自動詞をすべて正しく使用したかどうかを先生が教えてくれます。次に、先生がプレゼンテーションについて質問するので、先生の質問に答えてください。
For the student:
For homework, your teacher told you to prepare a short 1-minute presentation about your work. Please deliver that presentation to your teacher now. Your teacher will tell you if you used all the Transitive and Intransitive Verbs correctly. Then, your teacher will ask you questions about your presentation. Please answer your teacher's questions.
For the teacher:
Your student will deliver a 1-minute presentation about their work.
Listen carefully to make sure that they used all the Transitive and Intransitive Verbs correctly. Correct any mistakes that they made and make sure they understand the mistakes. Then ask them questions about the presentation. Make note of the Transitive and Intransitive Verbs that come up during the conversation. Then, after 10 minutes of discussion, take 5 minutes to give them feedback about their mistakes.
４. Free Practice Speaking Activity 2 (25 minutes)

受講生の方：
あなたの仕事について15分間のビジネスディスカッションを行います。 他動詞と自動詞を使って自分の仕事について話し始めてください。先生はあなたの話を聞いて、ビジネスディスカッションを続けるための質問をします。
For the student:
You will have a 15-minute Business Discussion about your work. Please start talking about your job using Transitive and Intransitive Verbs.
Your teacher will listen and ask you questions to continue the Business Discussion.
For the teacher:
Your student will start a 15-minute Business Discussion about their work. They will focus on using Transitive and Intransitive Verbs.
Listen carefully and ask very conversational questions.
As the Business Discussion progresses, take note of Transitive and Intransitive Verbs that they use. If they use some Transitive and Intransitive Verbs incorrectly, make note of them. Then after the 15-minute Business Discussion is over, give feedback for 5 to 10 minutes and explain their mistakes.
